The BlueBox System

The measurement and control system BlueBox is a modular and scalable basis to implement projects of all sizes. It allows to manage hundreds of sensors and actuators, to perform most complex instrumentation, control and automation functions and it provides reliable monitoring.

Data and event messages can be transmitted via networks and mobile telephone systems, with the software products providing visualisation and control up to complete SCADA systems all layers of data acquisition and control for water processing are implemented.

In addition to the stand-alone operation using the build-in color touch screen, all components of the BlueBox family are designed to be connected based on TCP/IP and signaling by a wide range of transmission technologies including landline, mobile and satellite systems. The range of functions includes visualisation and control in control centers, alert messaging via short message service, FAX and email and the secure transfer of data in external databases. Measurement
At the beginning is the measurement. Without accurate, long-term stabile measurements on the basis of appropriate methods it is impossible to generate reliable information.
We provide a wide range of high-quality sensors and sensor combinations for physical, chemical and biological parameters in water and environment.
Both analog sensors to be used on transducers and sensors with digital interfaces to be integrated in field busses, as well as optical multi-parameter sensors like the UV/Vis Insitu Spectral Analysator ISA are available.

BlueSense-non-transparent 
The signal generated by a sensor always requires a suitable conditioning. The quality of this step is not less important than the sensor precision. For all sensors we provide appropriate transducers (Smart Modules) to generate accurate measurements from the sensor signals or values deduced from multiple sensors like salinity.

These transducers are designed to form an open system, as is the whole BlueBox system. They allow the integration of sensors and actuators from any supplier, saving from getting locked in a single-vendor solution. In this way, the data acquisition and control is not limited to water-related parameters.

The intelligent transducer BlueSense also providesa flexible and comprehensive controller function and the feature to log the measured data to a SD-Card as long-term time series in a simple way - and is suitable for stand-alone operation.

Processing & Control
The BlueBox performs user-definable data analysis on the basis of current and historical data, which can comprise of complex mathematical and statistical algorithms. Control systems can be implemented covering simple PID strategies up to adaptive model-based technologies to respond to difficult control variables and time-variable dynamic processes.
With these features the BlueBox constitues for a modular and scalable platform for monitoring- control- and management functions, the integrated networking capability renders this system to a complete solution for the implementation of large and diverse projects.
DATA MANAGEMENT & TRANSMISSION
The consequent design of the BlueBox system to a highly flexible communication conforms to the growing importance of a continuous information availability. All relevant transmission technologies are supported including fieldbuses, networks, landline and mobile telephone systems and satellite links together with a wide range of protocols and services. This also allows a seamless integration with existing IT systems without additional investments.

With the help of the flexible communication possibilities of the BlueBox-System it is possible to transmit events locally or via telephone, network, mobile network and satellite, if required through redundant paths, in a swift and reliable manner. All usual services like SMS, email, FAX and network protocols are available for the transmission. Response times can thereby be minimized and the reliability of operation can be optimized.
Management
In addition to the transmission of status and event notifications the support of traditional and most current technologies allows for an uncomplicated and secure remote control, as well as monitoring, including user management and secure encryption. BlueBox-Systems can seamlessly be integrated into modern IT infrastructures and visualisations. As a result the administrative processes in areas of the process and quality monitoring of hydrotechnical installations are significantly improved in terms of efficiency, time and reliability.

Our data service BlueGate achieves a secure aggregation and provision of current and historical measurement data of remote installations. The service combines a data bank and gateway service to provide an additional level of data backup and visualisation, as well as monitoring and control via a uniform portal
– even with current mobile devices.
